Over 20 African universities were surveyed in this study that aimed to broadly assess existing postgraduate programmes in the social sciences. A select number of programmes of interest to the project were reviewed in detail. Details of programmes due to be launched in 2011 were also included. Areas covered include the scale of activity, disciplinary and subject trends, teaching staff, programme delivery and interesting practice in South Africa.
