Type: PASGR Scoping Study

This paper was commissioned to better understand the range and nature of barriers (contextual and systemic) faced by African female graduate teaching staff and researchers. The study sought to analyse the level of female involvement in social science research and graduate level education in Africa, as well as the range and nature of challenges faced by women researchers, teaching staff and graduate students. The study also aimed to understand the strategies and practices that research organisations and universities use to address gender barriers and the extent to which they have been successful.
